New commuter! SE Draft!

After I ditched my Polygon Xtrada 3.0, I wanted to convert my KHS Hardtail into my commuter... But with it's hydraulic discs, SLX componets... I'm rather worried of it being cannibalized... So a cheap single speed it is! And it's such a beauty too!

Bad light resulted in a noisy picture... No time to post more because... Well... Evil has fallen on.

Yup, that's right. It's a Diablo 3 Hiatus. Comment here if you want me back hahaha

Tokyo fixed gear ablazing

As a follow up to "Japan : Fixed gear crazy?" Well, let the pictures do the talking.

Sorry for the blur, walking a taking pictures in a crowed street avoids traffic build up. hahah excuses!

Damn, is that a chrome/silver seat?

More on Chrome! So shiny! I mistaken the top tube as the railing at first glance!

Probably the best lock-up I have seen in the whole of Japan. Front wheel and frame locked using a bike-locking kiosk and the rear amour-ed cable lock through the rear triangle, frame and chain. A (A stronger U-lock or beefy chain will get the lock-up a distinction)

What a rare gem! Locked at Shibuya. Looks so sleek!

Somehow I find this familiar, maybe I saw it on FGGT... what looks like 26" MTB fixed, horizontal dropout frame and front only discibrakes.

I'm lovin' the front balloon tire as well!

And stumbled onto a fixed gear gathering, outside a tiny weeny bike shop. Love the hip B/W big picture above the shop. Lucky find!

Retro or not?

Taken in Tokyo... There is just something retro, chic slightly hipsterish about bicycles... You see them in designer shops... Restaurants, furniture shops, fashion, hardware shops! Everywhere!

So what is it about bicycles? Their simplicity? Their long history? Or simply because the owner likes to ride bikes? Whatever it is, I'm glad they decided to use it as a decoration instead anything else!

Taken at Fukuoka, part of a window display of a shop selling apparel.

Crank Arm Steady (CAS)

Crank Arm Steady is probably the No.1 Fixed Gear blog in Singapore right now, they regularly post rider profiles, rides and my favourites: videos! Most of which I made by young film makers with great talent and often "doing" their own stunts in the vids. Ride on guys!

The awe for the single speed.

Just look at it, even cooler and more hip than the cruiser.

Simple, modern, low maintenance, fast.

A medium lock for a city that hardly has thefts... I grade this lockup B+, if it were in Singapore the wheels would probably be gone the next day. a C- grade in Sg. Dun lock just the frame, lock the rear wheel as well :)

Japan: Fixed gear crazy?

And yes, they can park their lovely special class of single speed bikes on a sign post. And ride them home at the end of the day.

They are single speed alright, but I have yet to see one person riding fixed. I have seen the purebreds parked outside shops with no brakes on, but not actually seen a person riding one.

All the minimalistic "fixed" geared bikes I see riding pass me at all flipflopped(Most fixed gear bikes come with flipflop hubs, google that!) to the normal tick tick tick ball bearings. Can't blame them though, I have rode fixed and its not easy stopping in a split second.

Have you rode fixed? You gotta try it one day!

In the mean time, Hiroshima is not exactly what you call "fixed" yet.
